The Refuge

Homelessness is not Hopelessness

 

 

  • The Refuge is the only emergency shelter in Erie, PA that keeps the entire family together as a unit.
  • Accomodates up to eight families
  • Stabilizes a family's emergency housing situation
  • Family empowered during 30-45 day to move forward to permanent housing
The Refuge for families

Who We Serve How We Serve Refuge Programs
Homeless families with children -
  • 2 parent families
  • mom & children
  • dad & children
  • families with
    physical disabilities
Help provide basic necessities such as clothing, food, personal supplies

Help to secure necessary paperwork such as Social Security card, Photo ID, birth certificate

Case Manager works with family to identify needs and establish goals

Counseling and assessment

Link families to community resources such as:
  • Job search, employment
  • Assist to stabilize income/benefits
  • Education - adult & children
 For Everyone:
  • Chaplaincy Program
  • Family activities,
    on & off property
For Adults:
  • Weekly - Parenting, Healthy Relationship, & Consumer Education classes
  • Twice a year 12 week Life Skills classes

For Youth and Kids:
  • After School & tutoring program
  • YAK (Youth & Kids) activities
  • AIPP (Alliance Infant & Preschool Program)

This ministry is not a hand out but a stepping stone to hope.
