A Poverty Simulation is an experience
that allows us to stp inside poverty for
a brief time to get a first hand view of
the challenges and obstacles that
people face.
If we as a church are going to address
the issues of poverty, we need to know
what it means to be poor.
Jesus reminded us. "As you have done
it to the least of these, you have done it
unto me."
During a simulation participants role
play the lives of low-income families
trying to maintain their self-sufficiency
on limited incomes such as social
security or public welfare.
Won't you join us for an afternoon to
walk in their shoes?
(Provided in collaboration with Pittsburgh
Social Venture Partnership) |

Pastors' Tour
| WHEN: | 9/10/08 @ 10:00 AM |
| WHERE: | San Juan UMC |
Get Directions
The Erie United Methodist Alliance (EUMA) is a group of United Methodist Churches and other local churches, laypersons, and pastors from the Erie-Meadville District organized in the name of Jesus Christ to meet the critical needs of people suffering from poverty and homelessness in our community. In other words, EUMA is you!
EUMA provides a number of services, programs and temporary housing situations to those suffering from homelessness. There is trained staff on hand 24 hours a day to make referrals and to locate other resources outside the scope of what our organization provides. EUMA provides transitional living for families suffering from homelessness at Hope House, an emergency shelter for families at The Refuge and transitional living for honorably discharged veterans suffering from homelessness at Liberty House. The Project Hope Outreach assists those suffering from homelessness in finding available services, and The Rainbow Connection Thrift Store helps those in need acquire clothing, household items, etc. at little or no cost.
The tour will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude at noon with lunch at San Juan United Methodist Church, 1430 Buffalo Road.
We have arranged for a number of church vans to transport us from one site to another. Everyone will meet at San Juan Church at 9:45. For those who wish to attend but are outside of Erie, vanpooling will be available if needed. To make arrangements, please call the Alliance office.
Please call 456-8073 or RSVP HERE at the EUMA office by September 3, 2008 if you plan to attend. Join us and see how God has called us to work together to serve the needs of God’s children in our communities.
Blessings of peace,
Mary C. Stewart
EUMA Program Committee

Preventing homelessness and helping those
currently suffering from
homelessness is
like operating a machine that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365
days a year. The machine cannot stop even for a moment or someone who
needs help may get overlooked during that moment of down time.
Please click on the miracle machine below and help make sure the gears
never stop.
