A.
There are several emergency shelters around town who can accommodate
you on such short notice. Choose the situation that best fits your own.

Q. I am a single father. Is there a
shelter I can go to and NOT be separated from my children?
A.
Call The Refuge for
Families (814) 454-6088 and ask for Chris.
The Refuge can
accommodate ANY family type including either or
both parents.
Q. How can I get into subsidized housing?
A.
There are a number of local agencies who provide subsidized housing.
The most common is the Erie Housing Authority.

Q. What is the difference between an Erie
city section 8 voucher and an Erie
county section 8 voucher?
A.
An Erie city voucher can be used anywhere within the Erie, PA city
limits.
(The city of Erie is bordered by Pittsburgh Ave. on the West, Bird Dr.
on the East, and Grandview on the South.)
An Erie county voucher can be used anywhere in Erie county EXCEPT
within the city limits.

first months rent and security deposit?
A.
You can try the: County Assistance Office’s

Q. Where can I go to get Health Care?
A.
You can try calling Community Healthnet Healthcare for
the Homeless (814) 454-4530 ext 269 and ask for Karen.
You may also try St. Paul’s Free Clinic

451-6700.
SERVICES
Q. How can I get a Birth Certificate?
A.
You may need to already have photo ID; Depending on the laws in the
state you were born.

Q. How can I get a Social Security card?
A.
You must go to the local Social Security Office located in Erie, PA in
the Highmark Building on the NE corner of 9th and State St.

Q. How can I get Photo ID?
A.
You MUST have a Birth Certificate to get Photo ID.

Q. Where is the closest food pantry?

Most food pantries around town are supplied by the Second Harvest
Foodbank of Northwest PA.

Q. Where can I get furniture?
A.
There are several agencies who can help you with furniture.
Try the Salvation Army, The City Mission’s family
care program, or local churches.
Q. I am searching for a job, but I need gas
for my car.
A.
You may qualify for a gas voucher. Contact the St.
Martin Center at 814-452-6113.
Q. I’m leaving town. Where can I
get a bus ticket?
A.
There are no agencies designated to provide this service. However, you
could try calling local churches to ask for help.

Where should I take them?
A. We ask that you take ALL
items to one of the locations listed below. From there we can ensure
that the donated items will go to where they are most needed.

homelessness and helping those currently suffering from homelessness is
like operating a machine that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365
